Ingredients

Gochujang beef

  • Ground beef
    2 parts225 g
  • Green Peas
    1 part100 g
  • Gochujang
    1/4 part50 g
  • Salt
    a sprinkle
  • Sesame Oil
    a drizzle
  • Water
    as needed

Serving options

  • Rice, cooked
  • Scallions, thinly sliced
    for garnish
  • Pickled ginger
    for garnish

Method

Step 1: Sear the beef

Add the ground beef to a pan over medium heat. Add a sprinkle of salt.

Let it render out some fat and . As it starts to , break it up with a wooden spoon or spatula.

Step 2: Create the sauce

When the beef is almost cooked through, add the gochujang and peas (frozen peas work great here). Mix until well combined, and add a splash of water if the mixture is too tight.

  • Stir & until the sauce glazes the meat.

Turn off the heat and finish with a drizzle of sesame oil. Taste and adjust with more salt if needed.

Step 3: Serve

Add a portion of the beef mixture over a scoop of cooked rice.

Optionally garnish with scallions & pickled ginger.

What if I can't find gochujang?

Gochujang is a red chili paste that brings and to the dish. It also forms the base of the sauce. You could use a combination of tomato paste and chili flakes or powder. However, it's easily found in most grocery stores or online.

Can I use other meat or vegetables?

Definitely. Any ground meat and vegetables would work, although we'd recommend finely dicing up any vegetables so they mix into the of the dish well.

Do I need sesame oil?
