Method
Step 1: Prepare the patties
Mix the meat with the salt and seasonings until they are well combined. Form into 4 equal-sized balls (2 balls per burger). Gather the remaining burger toppings and the bun.
Step 2: Cook the potatoes
Grate the potatoes and rinse them. Place the grated potatoes in a cheese cloth or a towel. Squeeze out all of the moisture that you can.
Add the potatoes, oil, and spices to a bowl and mix them together.
On a ripping hot cast iron, separate the potato mixture into two piles and place them on the grill to crisp up, flipping when needed. Remove from the heat and set aside.
Step 3: Sear & smash the patties
For the burgers, place the ball of meat on the griddle and immediately smash it with the spatula. Repeat with the remaining patties.
Let them undisturbed for about 45 seconds, then scrape and flip them over. Add a piece of cheese and place the other patty on top.
Step 4: Assemble the burgers
Lastly, soft scramble the eggs to your desired consistency.
Assemble the burger with the bun, sauces, hash browns, eggs, and any other toppings you would like. Enjoy.

FAQ
Can I use a different type of cheese?
Yes you can - however, American cheese is the most classic for a smash burger. American cheese is used here for how easily it melts and the it adds. If you prefer other cheese, use cheddar, pepper jack, etc.
Can I use a different type of meat?
Most types of ground meat should work here. The ground beef is great for an and juicy sausage, but it does add a lot of calories. For a lower calorie option, grab some 93/7 ground turkey and add half a slice of bacon cut into pieces. The bacon will add some and saltiness to the burger.
