Ingredients

Beef patties

  • 80/20 ground beef, divided
    225 g~1/2 lb
  • Salt
    a sprinkle
  • Black Pepper
    a sprinkle

Remaining burger components

  • Hamburger buns
    1
  • Tomatoes, sliced
    2 slices
  • Onions, diced
    a handful
  • Iceberg lettuce, shredded
    a handful
  • Pickles
    2-4
  • Mustard
    to taste
  • Frozen Fries
    for serving

Method

Step 1: Start fries & prep toppings

Chop & gather all burger toppings. Start the French fries using your preferred cooking method (air fryer, oven, etc).

While those cook, make the burger.

Step 2: Shape & sear the patties

Divide the ground meat into two ~112 g (1/4 lb) balls. Press & shape each into a thin & wide patty, then season with salt & pepper.

Preheat a griddle over high heat until smoking. Add both patties and until well on one side. Flip to finish cooking the patties through.

Step 3: Assemble & serve

Toast the buns, if desired. Add a generous squiggle of mustard to each side of the bun.

Layer on both cooked patties, and then top with onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce.

Close the bun & enjoy with your cooked fries.

FAQ

Could I make this with cheese?

Definitely. To make this a cheeseburger, melt a slice of American or your favorite cheese onto the flipped patties as they finish cooking.

Can I add other toppings and condiments?

For sure. This recipe replicates Whataburger's classic burger, which comes with just mustard and these toppings.
